Spring may have just sprung

There can be nothing nicer than witnessing the first signs of spring in the UK. Snowdrops (Galanthus), native to Europe and introduced into Britain by the Romans, are in full flower in Southern England despite the cold snap of a couple of weeks ago. The energy and resilience of a flowering bulb is captured as they push through the cold and wet soil to burst into flower for a few days after which they wither and disappear for another year.
